Dragons

Dragons are the oldest mythological beasts on Earth and may have even existed before time itself. Unlike most creatures, their genetic structures have not mutated or evolved over time. Instead, their forms have remained fairly consistent throughout history. Winged, massive, capable of having fire and ice breath, and most with intelligence near sentient, dragons are a force not to be trifled with.

Most dragons on Earth stay within the zone due to their attraction to the energy Karial that permeates the area, though unlike most mythical creatures they are capable of leaving. Unfortunately, most contact they've had with humans other then a few cases in China never ended well, giving rise to the stigma that they are violent beasts. This is slightly true for most semi-sentient dragons, though it is mainly for territorial reasons, but there are another type who boast the intelligence at the level or even above humanity's who are much more peaceful. This is the type that interacted with the early Chinese. Some even control powerful enough magics to take human form.
