The Varian Empty The Varian

Spoiler:

The Varian.

The Varian are a recently uplifted group of aggressive and sentient raptor-like species.

History.

On the planet of Rokmar, formerly known as Y5-1117, "Planet of Little Interest" to the Council, the Varian co-existed with the planet's vast jungles, rainforests, and plains, and learned to adapt to the dangerous predatory fauna. At this time they were a tribe society, where certain clans had claims over certain areas. The largest biodome of the planet was the Jungle, and it is indeed where most of the Varian lived. War would often break out, but not one tribe ever gained enough power to call itself an empire.

The Varian's homeworld was invaded roughly 50 years ago by the Legion of T'Ack'Mul, searching for remote bases of operation that the Council will not see. The Legion had no interest in the local life at first, they regarded the reptiles as savages who would stand no chance against the invasion force. But the Varian showed their cunning and intelligence when several squads of Legion marines would end up dead. Their armor ripped off and their shells pierced, with their organs having been consumed. The weapons could not be found. Soon, it was reported that the ambush parties had traded their large melee weapons for T'Ack'Mul weaponry. The invasion was becoming a problem for the T'Ack'Mul General in charge of it, and he had no sympathy for the Varian. He would do whatever it took to carry out the Overlord's orders.

T'Ack'Mul sentientologists captured a warrior Varian for study. It showed great aggressiveness and resistance to being captured, and relentlessly rammed itself against the wall of it's holding cell on the Legion ship. The sentientologists learned that the Varian had high adaptability from it's harsh planet, which explained how quickly it took them to learn how to fire T'Ack'Mul weapons, albeit poorly. They saw much potential in the Varian however, and proposed a plan to the General in an effort to use them. The T'Ack'Mul began to pinpoint and raid villages in the outer jungles, taking prisoners. They underwent extreme brainwashing and had operations done on their brains to subject themselves to T'Ack'Mul orders. These cyborg Varians were released back with T'Ack'Mul patrol units, and with their heightened senses, they tracked down other Varian, detected ambushes, and were overall just as merciless as the crustaceans they served.

Not only that, but the General had received orders to destroy the planet's ecosystem if necessary, they Legion only needed an orbital station and resources in the first place. Legion ships began to bombard deep into the jungles, flame throwers were issued to many patrolling squads, and they were ordered to burn everything in their path.

Their jungles burned, their brethren turned against them. The Varian were outmatched. But out of mere coincidence, a inter-galactic nation had ordered an investigation of the planet's usefulness a month earlier. A probe entered orbit undetected and identified Legion ships bombarding the planet. Within a week, an Armada fleet was formed and exited from FTL into Rokmar space. The Legion detected the fleet and gave up their invasion operation, wishing to stay an elusive mysterious entity to the Council. The council then investigated the reason as to why the Legion would try to scorch the planet. They discovered the Varian, and launched many stealth probes to observe villages and tribes, attempted to decipher their language. The Varian began to rebuild as best they could, but their world was impacted..

This nation, having studied the Varian intensly for many months, sent down representatives in probe form to speak with the Varian in their own language. At first the probes were met with defensiveness, some of them destroyed, but eventually they began to get their word across. Over the next 50 years, the Varian were slowly introduced to the outside world. But when asking to form a government, they were confused. The Varians accepted most uplifted life with an integration of their culture, except governments. They did not form one central Varian governing body. They either stuck with their own clans or went solo out into the galaxy.

The Varian are unknown to the Earth government.

Adaptation.
As with all things, the Varian accepted and adapted to their uplifted life. They found piloting quick space craft, often of the military kind, was easy because of their quick reactions and ability to take their surroundings in. They were a hit with many PMCs and Militaries, most of them had no concept of money and only wanted to fight for their honor. This thought process died out soon however, as the Varian began to grasp the concept of monetary value.

Culture.
The Varian will either follow their own native clans, find a non-Varian substitute of a clan, or go solo completely. Despite their uplifting, they still follow their codes of honor.

Their language is a complex one of many roars, barks, hisses, and screeches.

However, they are able to speak some languages without the assistance of an active translator. For instance, they can speak common English, although most new speakers elongate their speech and still add in a hiss or two.

The Varian also have a deep cultural scar from the T'Ack'Mul. Many Varian seek vengeance, and search for the fabled T'Ack'Mul homeworlds in an attempt to find them and announce their location to the Council. These explorers either find nothing, or mysteriously never return.

Anatomy.
Their scales can be blue, green, or light brown. Their eyes are either a dark yellow or light red. They have long tales and snouts, sharp claws, and opposable thumbs. Varian skulls house large sensory organs, and as a result they are very sensitive to blows to the head, or specific strikes on their weak points. However, most Varian will rarely give you the chance to do this.
